Peter Simonsen
Danish Peter Simonsen was initially educated as a rythmic pianist and then specialized as an organist from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. After years of working professionally as an organist in a Copenhagen church, Peter Simonsen found an unexpected inspirational source to start creating his own compositions.
On March 21, 2022, his workspace Hyltebjerg Church in Copenhagen caught fire, and everything inside was destroyed. That night, the old organ, the new grand piano, and all of Peter’s sheet music collected through 15 years went up in flames.
As the church was slowly rebuilt, he began to spend his hours by the piano at home. Marked by the sudden events, small fragments of songs started to emerge, and for the first time, he needed to create and play his own songs to find relief.
As a composer Peter uses a searching, spiritual, and dreamy inspiration in his approach to his music and seeks what he calls a pure, authentic expression. His songs offer presence, vulnerability, light and darkness, love and fear. From these feelings arise beautiful contrasts and surprising melodies. His debut album “Light” is due to be released in 2024.
