Yör wins “Band Of The Year” award
Yör, consisting of Marie Kildebæk, Janus Bagh, Lasse Jacobsen, and Victor Dahl, won the prize for “Band of the Year” – a huge congratulations to them and to all nominees and winners!
Last night, the union of Danish Independent Record Companies (DUP) held the inaugural Den Uafhængige music awards at Park Bio in Copenhagen. It was a landmark evening for women in Danish music, with 9 out of 10 awards going to female artists and one to a mixed-gender band – Yör. Brimheim was the only artist to win two awards, and Anne Dorte Michelsen received the Honorary Award for her life long career in music. Also the documentary Sexism in the Music Industry won the award for Best Music Media Production. The winners reflect a thriving, diverse music scene with far greater female representation than typically seen on the charts.
DUP chair Kristoffer Rom stated:
“We’re used to seeing men dominate award shows in Denmark. That’s not the case here, and it’s no surprise—our sector releases a much higher percentage of female artists than the majors. Hopefully, tonight’s winners can help shift the conversation away from supply and quality issues. Clearly, the underrepresentation of female artists in the industry isn’t due to a lack of talent but to other structural factors”
We are already excited about next years award show!
