Virgin Suicide ready with first single in 5 years

After two album releases in ’15 and ’17, various single releases, and an EP in
’19, there was suddenly silence from the Danish indie-band Virgin Suicide.
They had previously been spinned a lot on national Danish radio, BBC Radio
6 and played concerts at Roskilde Festival, The Great Escape, a great tour in
China, and much more. Unfortunately, the same week the band was
supposed to release the EP “Blight” in ’19, lead singer and guitarist Martin
Grønne suffered a severe concussion, which left deep marks for several
years and, of course, brought the band’s activities to a sudden halt.
But now, after a 5-year break from releasing music, the Copenhagen band is
finally ready with new music in the form of the single ”I can’t look at my
phone without thinking of you”, and the band is currently working on a
brand-new album.

Perfectly suited for the autumn season, Virgin Suicide
offers a stripped-down ballad of absolute beauty. The mood exudes longing
and autumn melancholy, with the melodic originality and depth that have
always characterized the sound of Virgin Suicide. With a confident touch,
acoustic guitar, bass, synth, and especially Martin Grønne’s voice guide the
listener through a delicate tale about losing your emotions to a screen
instead of investing them in another person.

Virgin Suicide has existed since 2012 and has stayed together through thick
and thin for more than a decade. This summer, for the first time since 2019,
they hit the road again and played a large tour in China for thousands of
people. About the tour and the current single release, Martin Grønne states:
“It was a huge relief to finally play our second China tour, after it was
canceled 4 years ago, when we were supposed to start the adventure in
Wuhan a week after the pandemic broke out. I was actually afraid of being
disappointed after the shock of the first tour with the large turnout, but it
exceeded all expectations. The engagement from the fans was so moving,
and it was a dream to play sold-out venues in Beijing and Shanghai. We felt
we owed the fans new music from us and were inspired to release this
particular single, which has been brewing for a while and is now finally being
released.”

Much more music from Virgin Suicide is in the pipeline!
