ROXY JULES

ROXY JULES releases new single and announces special concert

Since the release of her debut album in 2011, ROXY JULES has established herself as an uncompromising artist, continuously striving to create the kind of music she herself wishes existed. She has released four full-length albums, two EPs, and played numerous concerts, all exploring the tension that arises between her clear voice, electronic beats, noise-rock guitars, and the cinematically dreamy details that always hide in the corners of her music.

The lyrical universe is a central part of ROXY JULES’ music and is worth exploring alongside her. Over the years, she has lyrically explored the feeling of constantly being torn between a restless urge to seek chaos and wildness in the winding backstreets of the city while simultaneously searching for the peace that comes when walking along the sea, listening to the waves. She writes about both the beautiful and the difficult, about letting go and holding on, about life’s eternal movements and time — perhaps an illusion in itself. She has written about black holes, interplanetary dust particles, wondered why some people’s eyes are blue, and dived into pathological descriptions of why even the strongest bones sometimes break — and how they can grow back together with renewed strength.

On her latest EP, Into The Vastness Of It All (2023), ROXY JULES included a Danish-language song for the first time, “Mellem Sekundernes Tråde”. Now, she is ready with another single in Danish, “Hvor skyggerne faldt”, the first release from an upcoming EP entirely in Danish.

“I live in an apartment in Vesterbro, Copenhagen”, says ROXY JULES, “and in the courtyard stands a large, twisted magnolia tree. Every year, I am fascinated by how infinitely beautiful it is when the flowers bloom. And at the same time, I am overwhelmed by how quickly it lets go of its flowers and allows the delicate white petals to fly into infinity. That tree was one of the inspirations behind Hvor skyggerne faldt. Because it reminds me of the fleeting nature of life and how important it is to truly live while we are here—and to fight for what we believe in.”

The single was created in close collaboration with producer and musician Valentin Kruse, her longtime creative partner.

“Hvor skyggerne faldt” will be released on February 7 and will be celebrated with a special concert on February 15 at 19:30 at Råhuset on Onkel Dannys Plads in Copenhagen. On this night, ROXY JULES will team up with three of the most intriguing artists from the contemporary art scene: Sian Kristoffersen, Jon Stahn, and Anders Brinch, who will create an art installation on stage, with ROXY JULES performing in the midst of their eclectic sculptural works. The event is for free!

ROXY JULES’ perseverance has earned her a nomination as ‘Solo Artist of the Year’ at the Danish Alternative Music Awards on March 8 — a well-deserved recognition for continuing to forge her own path in music.
